The Great Waylon Jennings Was Born On This Day Back In 1937

The late Waylon Jennings was born in Littlefield, Texas on June 15, 1937. Waylon rose to fame as the bass player for Buddy Holly. Waylon was lucky because he wasn’t on the plane that crashed and killed Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J. P. “The Big Bopper” Richardson. One of country music’s original “outlaws”, Waylon was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2001, just one year before he passed away in 2002.

One of my favorite songs from Waylon was his duet with Jessi Colter covering Suspicious Minds. They released it as a single back in 1970. This video is of Waylon’s last concert appearance at the Ryman back in 2000. The concert was recorded, and became Jennings’ final album, Never Say Die: Live. Enjoy this look at Waylon and his wife Jessie Colter singing Suspicious Minds.
