Celebrate The Late Dottie West’s Birthday With Her First Solo #1 Hit – A Lesson In Leavin’

Dottie West was born Dorothy Marsh on this day back in 1932 in McMinnville, TN. While she’s remembered by many for her duets with Kenny Rogers and Don Gibson, Dottie scored three solo number one hits on the Billboard Hot Country charts. Her first was this song, A Lesson In Leavin’, which hit number one back in 1980.

It was written by Randy Goodrum and Brent Maher, and in 1999, Jo Dee Messina, took the song to number two on the country charts. I wonder if Randy and Brent’s prerequisite for recording the song was red hair?

Enjoy this classic performance from Ms. Dottie West while we remember her life on her birthday!

Celebrate The Life Of The One And Only Waylon Jennings With Two Of His Biggest Hits

The great Waylon Jennings left this earth on this day back in 2002 at the young age of 64. One things for certain though, while Waylon was here, he took advantage of every moment. To honor this legend, here are two of my favorite Waylon Jennings songs. Here’s Luckenbach, Texas and his famous duet with Willie, Mamas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys. Enjoy!

Watch Highlights From Last Night’s GRAMMY Salute To Country Music Honoring Loretta Lynn Hosted By Reba McEntire

The Recording Academy hosted GRAMMY Salute To Country Music honoring Loretta Lynn, presented by MasterCard, last night at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. Ms. Lynn was saluted with performances by Garth Brooks, Kid Rock, Martina McBride, Gretchen Wilson, Lee Ann Womack, and Reba McEntire, who also hosted the evening’s festivities. Jack White, Recording Academy President/CEO Neil Portnow, and Recording Academy Chair George J. Flanigen IV also participated in the event, which also included a special presentation of The Recording Academy President’s Merit Award to Loretta Lynn in honor of her dynamic career and contributions to country music.

My favorite part of the evening: Garth was Loretta’s date for the evening, and when he asked her whether he should pick her up in a limo or his truck, she said, “The Truck”. Loretta’s still the same country girl she’s always been. Congratulations Loretta! Enjoy this video with highlights from last night’s event.
