Celebrate The Late Dottie West’s Birthday With Her First Solo #1 Hit – A Lesson In Leavin’

Dottie West was born Dorothy Marsh on this day back in 1932 in McMinnville, TN. While she’s remembered by many for her duets with Kenny Rogers and Don Gibson, Dottie scored three solo number one hits on the Billboard Hot Country charts. Her first was this song, A Lesson In Leavin’, which hit number one back in 1980.

It was written by Randy Goodrum and Brent Maher, and in 1999, Jo Dee Messina, took the song to number two on the country charts. I wonder if Randy and Brent’s prerequisite for recording the song was red hair?

Enjoy this classic performance from Ms. Dottie West while we remember her life on her birthday!
